The Donut Proposal

A year ago today, Colin proposed to me… on a donut. It was a very sweet, special day and I’ll remember it forever. I had a feeling Colin would be proposing soon since we had been pretty open talking about it. But the holidays had passed and I remember him being pretty worn out with the flu.. so I didn’t think it would happen that weekend.

We woke up that morning and he told me he wanted to get dressed and go to brunch. I thought it was a little odd since he was sick, but I brushed it off thinking he just wanted to get out of the house. So I got dressed and came downstairs. We were those people who had their Christmas tree still up way past New Years (like we do now)…

As I was putting on my boots, he calls me over and said we still had some presents under the tree. I went over to him… and he held out this box from Donut Friend. He opened it, and there it was… a giant Polar Berry donut with the words “Will you marry me?” on it. He then got down on one knee and held out the sparkliest thing I had ever seen. And I of course said YES.

donut proposalI really loved that Colin proposed in our home. This was an emotional, exhilarating, beautiful moment in our lives and there was something really special about sharing it in our intimate little home. But he had a whole day planned after that – he had a limo pick us up and take us to Huntington Gardens, where we strolled through the trees and succulents and roses. donut proposalHuntington GardensHuntington GardensHuntington GardensHuntington GardensHuntington GardensI must have stopped a million times to take photos of my engagement ring. proposal-10Rose Garden Tea Room at Huntington GardensColin made reservations for tea at the Rose Garden Tea Room, which was such a nice touch since English tea service is my favorite kind of meal aside from donuts and coffee. proposal-9proposal-3There was this one moment where we sat down on a bench together at the gardens to get some rest. Colin held onto my hand and I just remember feeling so unbelievably happy. Like everything was right in the world. Aside from the actual proposal, I think this was my favorite moment of the day.
