Happy Thanksgiving week everyone!
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because the main activity is EATING. Here’s to multiple food coma naps on the couch. Let’s look forward to the short work week and carbs to come.
In the meantime, I’m taking a moment to share all the parts of agency life I’m thankful for.
COMFY DRESS CODE
First off, when you’re working late nights for weeks at a time, your morning stress can be mitigated just from being able to throw on something comfortable for work. It doesn’t seem like a big deal, but it’s pretty nice not having to wear slacks and a button down shirt everyday. This does not mean you get to show up looking like a dump. You may still have to suit up for client meetings. But jeans, a knit top and an infinity scarf make an acceptable daily uniform at most agencies.
WORKING REMOTELY
Speaking of comfy. The beauty of technology, particularly VPN access, gives us the convenience of working remotely. This is necessary so you can meet your clients where they want to meet you. But it also comes in handy when you’re waiting for the cable guy to show up within a 12 hour window or expecting your new fridge to be delivered. Flexibility goes both ways in agency life – you may be expected to work long hours on a whim, but in my experience, most bosses are understanding with you working from home every now and then, so long as you give them some warning.
PARTIES GALORE
I’m not insinuating anything here. Except for the fact that we will find any excuse to have a party. Birthday, baby shower, wedding shower, someone’s first day, someone’s last day… you name it and cake will appear. Sugar is joyful, and when you’re grinding away most of the day, a little afternoon dessert makes agency life all the better.
PETS IN THE OFFICE
Morning commutes can be a total drag. Mornings can be a total drag. But what melts the anxiety and stress away is a cuddly friend waiting for you at the office. And I’m not talking about your copywriter. It’s become such a trend to have pets in the office. And I LOVE it. Furry coworkers, even scaly ones… conference calls are so much more bearable when you’re holding a puppy. Or a bearded dragon. Meet Gwen the Beardie. I try to bring her to the office every once in a while to spread happiness unto all.
Those are just a few things I’m thankful for when it comes to agency life. What are you thankful for?
