You guys… one of my pet peeves is when I see people’s names spelled wrong in an email. Not just my own name, but anyone’s name. I know it may not seem like a big deal, but I think it’s just plain rude and careless. Especially when the email is coming from an Outlook account at work where people’s full names are usually spelled out for you in the directory. Like nails on a chalkboard… I just cringe.
It’s even more annoying when I see it happen between internal coworkers who interact with each other daily. And it’s just mortifying when it’s someone in your agency addressing a client. And I have no sympathy when it comes to “not so common” names – that shouldn’t be an excuse for people to spell anyone’s name wrong that you deal with on a regular basis.
Lately, I’ve just seen it happen too often, particularly from other departments requesting help from my team of program managers- which is pretty comical considering these are people asking for a favor.
Shawn (eek) when it’s Shaun
JANelle (arg) when it’s JENelle
Ashley (c’mon) when it’s Ashling
LindSEY (rrrr) when it’s LindSAY
Traci (ugh) when it’s Tracy
Don’t let something so simple keep you from coming off as professional and detail-oriented.
Spell my name right!
