Cinco De Mayo Cocktail Recipe – Jefe Del Pepino

Cinco de Mayo is just a couple days away … do you guys have any parties lined up? We always do something fun because it’s Colin’s birthday! I have a fancy dinner reservation for just the two of us on the day of, followed by weekend plans. If you’re planning on hanging out at home for Cinco, I don’t blame you at all – I love having my own little party away from the crowds. In fact, we have a delicious cocktail recipe from Shaker & Spoon that’s perfect for the occasion.

The Jefe Del Pepino is a tequila cocktail made with fresh cucumber and lime juice. It’s bright and refreshing, but with a touch of heat. My favorite part about the cocktail is the Tajin – a chili-lime salt that’s so addicting, you want to lick every little speck of it off the counter.

Here’s what you need:

  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • 1/2 lime
  • 3 cucumber slices
  • 1/2 chili pepper
  • Tajin
  • 2 oz tequila blanco

Here’s how you mix the drink:

The Jefe Del Pepino is a drink that gets muddled and shaken. Use a rocks glass (a shorter, wider glass) to serve this drink.

  • Spread some Tajin out on a plate. Juice the 1/2 lime, set the juice aside, then run the squeezed lime rind around the rim of the glass to wet it. Press the glass into the plate so the rim gets coated in Tajin.
  • Add the syrup, 1/2 chili pepper and cucumber slices to a shaker and muddle for 6 seconds.
  • Add the tequila and lime juice, then fill the shaker with ice cubes and shake vigorously for 6 seconds.
  • Double strain the contents of the shaker into the Tajin-rimmed glass, over fresh cubed ice.

This drink recipe came from the Agave Blanco Box that Shaker & Spoon sent out a couple months back. I get so excited when I learn how to make a unique cocktail from this sweet lil subscription box that I really enjoy.
