June gloom has taken over LA this weekend and I feel as if I’ve been cemented onto my couch, consumed with naps, Netflix and daydreams. Reminds me of the weather in Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, which is basically my favorite movie at the moment. Totally inspiration-drenched and daydream-worthy. It’s about two mega adorable misfits, Sam and Suzy, who develop a sweet romance as pen pals and plan to run away together. I love the 60s… so I am obsessed all the styling in this movie. Suzy’s blue eyeshadow and her coat with the little capelet over the shoulders… LOVE.
and these pink walls…
My favorite scene in Moonrise Kingdom was when Sam and Suzy meet for the first time. Sam was at a community play, got bored and started roaming around backstage. He found Suzy with a few other girls as they were getting ready for their part in the play – they were different birds. He asked What kind of bird are you?… When one of the girls started talking, he stopped her and says… “I said, what kind of bird are YOU?” and singled Suzy out. It was kind of romantic and innocent all at the same time. As adults, we approach so many situations with such uncertainty. It’s sweet how these kids do everything with such conviction- they’re so sure of themselves.
“I’m a raven.” she says. When they secretly meet to run away together, all Suzy brings with her are library books, left-handed scissors, a record player, her one favorite record, cat food and her kitten in a basket. What more do you need for a new beginning? Makes me want to grab my purse and take a spontaneous road trip. Hope you guys are as inspired by this movie as I was. Sweet daydreams. <3
